Our Heart for Worship Ministry:
I have been involved for the last thirty years in leading worship in a wide variety of settings and have seen a huge need for encouragement and mentoring for worship communities. I have wanted to start a School of Worship for many years, but the timing never seemed to be right. So, instead of having a School where people come to you, I figured that I could bring the School out to local settings where more people could be involved. This seminar is designed for worship communities and anybody else that has a heart to grow deeper with God in the area of worship. This facet of the Christian life is so much more than just the 30 minutes we spend on a Sunday morning singing and proclaiming the goodness of God, worship is what we do and how we live our entire lives.
The verses in John 4:23, 24 are a great foundation from which to build on: “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Romans 12:1,2 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
What can you expect from a Freshwind Worship Seminar?
We are in the process of working these seminars out so I am thinking that we could have three or four sessions on Saturday looking at specific topics of worship leading.
- The Why’s of Worship: Building a biblical foundation for Worship
- The How’s of Worship: Particulars in Worship Leading: working on specifics of worship leading from set list preparation, working with the Pastor, working with the band, congregational dynamics.
- The Character of the Musician – just because you are gifted to play an instrument does not mean God is calling you to be a worship leader. Character first gifting second.
- Sound people are an integral part of the worship team
- Sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit: spiritual gifts in action, reading the dynamics in a meeting. “What is God doing?” Freedom to change direction in the middle of a set.
- Performance versus Anointing?
- Q&A time: Lots of time to interact together
